Overview

Where the P15BE goes for natural horn, the P15BM chooses black micarta, a workshop material valued for how it behaves in the hand. The rest is shared with the series: a 57 mm 440C drop point blade, assisted opening, frame lock, belt clip, 80 mm closed and 144 mm open. One gram separates the two versions, 63 g for this one, a difference no hand will ever notice.

Micarta, fabric turned into a handle

Micarta is born from layers of textile soaked in resin and pressed together: the result is a dense, stable laminate that does not swell with damp and that can be sanded to a slightly granular finish. That grain is exactly the appeal, since a wet or oily hand keeps its hold without the handle needing aggressive texturing. Micarta also takes site knocks in its stride and asks for nothing more than soapy water.

440C steel, plain edge, drop point profile, 57 mm of blade. Black micarta handle 80 mm long, total length of 144 mm with the knife open, mass of 63 g. The knife comes with assisted opening, a frame lock and a belt clip. That frame lock uses part of the handle itself as the locking element, which puts a substantial block of material behind the blade tang once the knife is deployed.

Care

Micarta asks for little: warm soapy water, a soft brush to revive the grain, then drying. It fears neither water nor cold, though a clean handle is simply nicer to hold. Wipe the 440C blade after each use and keep the joint free of dust, since the assist spring works on every opening. A drop of light oil on the pivot two or three times a year keeps the movement crisp.
