Max Knives P59B — Black spear point butterfly knife, 96 mm, 115 g

Overview

Dressed in black from tip to latch, the P59B carries over the spear point blade and the skeletonised stainless handles of the P59S. What strikes you in the hand is not the colour but the mass: 115 g packed into 123 mm of folded length. The small round holes read as hollows against the dark tone, with no play of reflections, and the whole thing looks like one solid block. Opened, the knife reaches 213 mm and forms a single continuous grip.

115 g and what weight does to the motion

Across this series mass runs from 92 to 115 g, and the P59B sits at the top of that range. Fifteen or twenty grams look like nothing on a spec sheet; in rotation they change everything. A heavier handle stores more energy and carries its own arc onward: the movement starts with less effort, but it will not stop simply because you changed your mind halfway. So it has to be accompanied, the end of the turn anticipated, the knife allowed to come back rather than snatched. Plenty of users prefer that frank inertia, which keeps the tempo even and the timing easier to read than on a very light model.

Care

On a heavy knife the pivots work harder, and that is where attention belongs. Check their tightness regularly without forcing anything, and add a touch of light oil as soon as the rotation feels dry. The black tone cleans dry, with a soft cloth; soapy water is for stubborn marks only, followed by a thorough drying. Do not overlook the drilled holes, where moisture can sit after a wash.
