Overview

The NS140 is the sole two-tone shuriken in the range: black and red share one piece, which sets it apart from every single-colour star around it. Its outline is not a circle, the stated dimensions being 100 mm by 67, built around four points. Cut from a 2 mm plate of 420 stainless steel, it is given at 52 g and arrives with its belt sheath.

Two colours and 52 grams

Two facts define the NS140. The first is colour: black and red live together on one piece, a treatment no other NS star receives, and one that makes the shuriken easy to read on a shelf or on the ground. The second is mass: 52 g, the highest figure among the references in the series that publish a weight. On a plate only 2 mm thick, that mass comes from the surface the 100 by 67 mm outline develops.

Set against the NS150, which measures 100 mm across at 3 mm, the NS140 offers a thinner plate in a comparable footprint. Those 2 mm also place it among the thinner plates of the range.

Care

A two-tone finish means watching both colours at once: wipe the red and the black with the same soft cloth, no harsh product, as soon as the session ends. 420 steel likes to come home dry, so after rain, dry the piece before the sheath rather than the other way round. A very light pass of thin oil protects the 2 mm of material and the four tips that do the most work.
