Max Knives FPGSPLTM — folding Shark Griffe, brown titanium ring

Overview

The FPGSPLTM is the third reading of the folding Shark Griffe: the same 45 mm 440C steel blade, the same 3.5 mm thickness, the same 80 mm G10 handle with contrasting scales, but a ring in brown anodised titanium, adjustable to the diameter of the finger. Open, the piece measures 125 mm and weighs 56 g. With Fred Perrin the ring has never been an ornament added at the end of a handle: it is where the drawing starts, and everything else is arranged around it. Kydex neck sheath and paracord, numbered First Run series.

The shark geometry in detail

What separates the Shark from the Tanto of the same series is the drawing of the tip. On the Shark the spine never breaks: it runs down in an even slope from the handle and meets the edge on the bias, so that the point is formed by two lines gradually converging rather than by an angle. The result shows to the eye as much as in use: the forward part of the blade stays thin and continuous, and the edge keeps the same curve right to its end, without a break. It is a tip that enters material by following it, where an angled point goes through it.

Care

The kydex sheath is the part that travels most: rinse it under clear water, shake it out and let it dry mouth down, then take off the paracord to wash it by hand if it has picked up dust. The brown ring needs no more than a damp cloth, with nothing stripping in it. On the blade you stay with the simple 440C routine: dry it, lay on a film of oil, fold it back once everything is dry. G10 brushes clean gently with soapy water.
