Max Knives FP1907N — Compact 440C fixed blade, numbered series

Overview

The FP1907 is a miniature fixed blade built to take up almost nothing: 83 mm overall, of which 45 mm is 440C steel blade and 38 mm handle, with 3 mm of stock and a weight of 24 g. Its ergonomics rest on very little: a single finger through the handle is all it takes to use it, which leaves the rest of the hand free. This particular version stands apart through its blackwash finish and its numbering. It is supplied with its kydex sheath.

A numbered run of Fred Perrin's design

Fred Perrin has been working on the idea of putting one finger through the handle to keep a tool under control since La Griffe appeared in the early 1990s; the FP1907 moves it onto an even shorter format. This variant is the collector's reading of it: every example carries a number, and the blackwash finish darkens the 440C blade instead of the bright finish. No edition size is published. For comparison, the standard FP1907 shares the same dimensions, 83 mm overall and a 45 mm blade, with a quoted weight of 34 g.

Care

440C is a stainless steel, but the blackwash finish deserves a gentle hand: avoid abrasives and scouring pads, which lighten it in patches. After wet use or contact with food, wipe the blade and dry it before putting it away. A thin film of light oil wiped on with a cloth protects the steel through the spells when the knife stays in a drawer. As for the kydex sheath, a pass under the tap and a spell drying flat are all it needs.
