The black μSepia is cut from a single block of N690 steel, blade and handle alike: 100 mm open, 41 grams, a 35 mm sheepfoot blade on a slip joint, ready to ride on a key ring or work as a money clip.
Overview
The microSepia comes out of a collaboration between Torpen and Max Knives, on a drawing by Jérôme Hovaere inspired by Streamline design. This black version sits in the palm of a hand: 100 mm overall for 41 grams, cut from a single block of N690 steel, blade and handle alike. The 35 mm sheepfoot blade swings out and is held by a slip joint. A very small pocket object, as much at home on a key ring as at the bottom of a jeans pocket.
Sepia, the cuttlefish and the three holes
The name is not decoration: sepia is another word for the cuttlefish, and the three holes drilled through the body of the knife echo the animal while taking weight out of the piece. The other point of the microSepia is its dual purpose, written into the original drawing: key ring knife or money clip, whichever you decide. Either way the format stays the same, ten centimetres open and a few dozen grams, and the knife stays out of the way until the moment you need it.
Technical specifications
Blade and handle are cut from the same stainless N690 steel, which makes the microSepia a one-piece build. The blade measures 35 mm, sheepfoot in shape, with a plain edge and a thickness of 3 mm. The handle measures 50 mm and the overall length, knife open, comes to 100 mm. The blade is held by a slip joint. This black version weighs 41 grams.
Care
N690 is a stainless steel, but stainless steel still asks for a little attention: wipe the blade after every use, especially after contact with acidic food or salty damp, and store the knife dry. A drop of fine oil on the pivot keeps opening and closing even; wipe off the excess so that dust does not settle in it. Sharpening is done on a fine-grit stone, following the original angle of the edge.
Legal notice for international buyers. Carrying it in public without a legitimate reason is an offence in France and in most European countries. It is the buyer's responsibility to check the law that applies where the order is delivered before purchasing.
