Max Knives MKH03M — Persistent Torpen folder, brown G10 and N690

Overview

In brown, the Persistent changes its look without changing its nature: the same dimensions, the same drawing by Jérôme Hovaere for Torpen, but a G10 handle in an earth tone that warms up the light satin N690 blade. Two hundred and one millimetres open, 111 mm folded, 103 grams in the pocket. Brown G10 is one of the two handle colours of the model, alongside the black of the MKH03N. First Run series limited to 300 numbered pieces.

The liner lock and the G10

A liner lock is a simple and dependable lock: a leaf spring cut into the handle liner slides in behind the heel of the blade as soon as it is open and holds it there, and sideways thumb pressure releases it to close. The G10 of the handle is a stack of glass cloths impregnated with resin, pressed and then machined from the solid: it does not move with humidity and keeps its grip even with wet hands. Two sober construction choices, in the service of a straight back blade that cuts anything.

Technical specifications

N690 steel blade, straight back in shape, 89 mm long and 3 mm thick, with a plain edge. Brown G10 handle of 111 mm, which gives the closed length of the knife; open, the Persistent measures 201 mm. The knife weighs 103 grams and locks with a liner lock. First Run production limited to 300 numbered pieces.

Care

The G10 handle takes water and soap without complaint, and a soft brush brings the textured areas back to life. Dry the inside of the handle and the pivot area afterwards. On the blade side, the N690 simply asks to be wiped after use and stored dry. A drop of fine oil on the pivot keeps the action even, and a few passes on a fine-grit stone at the original angle are enough to look after the edge.
