Max Knives MKH03N — Persistent Torpen folder, black G10, N690 blade

Overview

The Persistent is the folding knife drawn by Jérôme Hovaere, of Torpen knives, for Max Knives. This version carries a black G10 handle of 111 mm and a light satin blade in N690 steel, 89 mm long, with a straight spine. Open, the knife measures 201 mm and weighs 103 grams; the blade is held by a liner lock, the most widely used lock on working folders. It is produced as a First Run limited edition of 300 numbered pieces.

A straight back blade

The Persistent blade is a straight back: the spine runs in a straight line from the handle to the tip, and it is the edge that rises to form the belly. This is the simplest blade shape there is, and the most versatile: it keeps material and thickness all the way forward, gives a long section of straight edge for slicing, and puts the tip in line with the handle for precise work. Nothing exotic, everything useful.

Technical specifications

The Persistent brings together an 89 mm blade in N690 steel, straight back in shape, with a plain edge and 3 mm of thickness, and a black G10 handle of 111 mm, which is also the closed length of the knife. Opened out it reaches 201 mm for a weight of 103 grams. Locking is by liner lock. The whole run is a First Run limited edition of 300 numbered pieces.

Care

G10 is a laminated composite that does not take up water: a rinse and a wipe are enough, even after messy work. The N690 blade should be dried after each use and stored away from damp. Check now and then that the liner lock plate is clean, since dust and fibres end up gathering there, and put a drop of fine oil on the pivot. The edge is brought back on a stone, keeping the original angle.
