Max Knives FP1802 G10 — Matt black G10 push dagger, Fred Perrin

Overview

The FP1802 G10 takes Fred Perrin's FP1802 push dagger outline into an entirely different material. The piece reads matt black from one end to the other, without the grey, textured grain of the steel version: this is G10, across the whole silhouette. It measures 101 mm overall, with a double-edged blade of 63 mm and 3 mm of stock. A paracord lanyard runs through the handle, a detail specific to this G10 version.

G10, a glass laminate

G10 is a composite: layers of glass-fibre cloth stacked and hot-pressed in epoxy resin. The resulting block is dimensionally stable, indifferent to water and to swings in temperature, and it knows neither oxidation nor corrosion. Its colour runs through the mass rather than sitting on the surface, so a scratch reveals no other shade underneath. That is what gives the FP1802 G10 its even matt black, from the blade tip to the cross handle.

Care

G10 does not rust and takes up no water: a rinse in lukewarm water followed by a wipe with a soft cloth is enough to restore its look. It tolerates neutral soap; solvents and abrasive cleaners are best avoided, as they would dull the matt black. The paracord can be washed in soapy water and left to air dry, away from any direct heat source. No oil is needed on a piece that has no oxidation to fear.
