Max Knives FPPUSHS — Silver 440C mini push dagger, Fred Perrin design

Overview

The FPPUSHS is the silver version of Fred Perrin's mini push dagger. The 440C steel stays on show here, under a stone wash finish that gives it a satin grey lit by short reflections. The figures are those of the series: 80 mm overall length, 53 mm width, 2.6 mm thickness, a 45 mm double-edged blade and a 35 mm handle set crosswise. The whole thing weighs 48 grams and arrives with its kydex sheath and paracord.

What a stone wash finish does

Stone wash is not a layer laid over the steel but a surface treatment: the piece is tumbled with media that mark the polish with a multitude of randomly oriented micro-scratches. The result is a matt, living grey that does not throw light back in a single plane the way a mirror polish would. On the silver FPPUSHS that grain is read directly, where the black version covers it over: that is the whole difference between the two twins.

Care

A systematic wipe after contact with water, then a full dry before it goes back into the sheath: that is the essence of what 440C stainless steel asks for. For storage over several weeks, run a lightly oiled cloth over blade and handle. The stone wash grain takes fingerprints well, and a dry cloth makes them disappear. Clean the kydex with lukewarm water, and let the paracord air dry after washing.
