Max Knives FPGPLSMINI — 28 g folding Mini Griffe with screw bearing

Overview

At 28 g and with a 65 mm handle, the FPGPLSMINI is the most contained format among Fred Perrin's folding Griffes. Its 440C steel blade runs 35 mm and folds entirely into a G10 handle, for a knife measuring 100 mm once open. The starting drawing holds very little: a short blade, a handle just long enough to house it, nothing extra around them. The joint rests on a screw bearing system, described below. The knife is supplied in a kydex sheath mounted on paracord.

The screw bearing

On this model the opening does not rest on a plain rubbing axle: the pivot is a screw bearing, meaning an assembly where the axle screw both clamps the liners and provides the seat the blade turns on. The setting of that screw therefore governs the smoothness of the movement directly, and it stays reachable at any time. It is the only documented mechanism in the whole folding Mini Griffe line, which makes this the model whose opening and closing we know in the most precise detail.

Technical specifications

440C steel blade, plain edge, 35 mm long. G10 handle, 65 mm, which is 5 mm shorter than the 70 mm of the other folding Minis in the line: that much space saved once the knife is closed. Overall open length: 100 mm. Locking system: screw bearing. Weight: 28 g, against 54 g for the steel-handled folding Minis, so 26 g less. Kydex sheath included, with paracord.

Care

All the attention goes to the joint: dust it out now and then by blowing into the opening with the knife unfolded, then lay a drop of fine oil on the axle screw and work the blade several times to spread it. G10 takes warm soapy water and dries with a cloth. The 440C blade only asks for a wipe after any wet use. The kydex sheath rinses clean, the paracord washes by hand.
