Overview

The NS144 counts among the large stars of the series at 112 mm across, but its thickness sets it apart: 2 mm, where most of the four-point pieces of the range are cut from 3 mm. Four widely spread tips, a silver finish, 420 stainless steel; the recipe belongs to the series, the proportion changes. The belt sheath supplied closes the package.

2 mm or 3 mm: what thickness tells you

At comparable shape and diameter, thickness governs mass: a 2 mm plate holds a third less material than a 3 mm plate of the same outline. The comparison is right there in the NS series, since the NS136 measures 110 mm at 3 mm while the NS144 measures 112 mm at 2 mm. Two stars of nearly identical footprint, two different objects in hand, one denser, the other slimmer on the edge. Owning both is exactly how a collector feels the difference.

Together with the NS140, NS142, NS139 and NS153, the NS144 belongs to the group cut from 2 mm stock; it is the one with the largest diameter. Its 112 mm is also the second largest diameter of the whole range.

Care

On a thin plate the edge makes up a visible share of the piece, so wipe it along with the faces. 420 cleans up under clear water when it has picked up soil, dries with a soft cloth, then takes a trace of light oil spread by hand. Put the shuriken back in its sheath only once all 112 mm are dry, edge included.
