Overview
The FPBGY is the brown version of the first butterfly knife Fred Perrin designed for Max Knives. The mechanics and dimensions are those of the series: 158 mm open, 56 g, a 72 mm VG10 blade 3 mm thick, 85 mm full-titanium handles, 11 mm thick, a latch, a kydex sheath. Only the colour of the scales changes.
The blade carries Fred Perrin's signature on one side, the Max Knives logo and its serial number on the other. The three colours of the series: the black FPBBK, the blue FPBBL and this one. Fred Perrin's work for the brand is presented on the Fred Perrin x MaxKnives page.
What the brown antique micarta changes
Brown antique micarta is a resin-impregnated, pressed cloth: what you see at the surface is the fabric itself, held within the material. The antique finish leaves the weave visible and gives a matt, slightly grainy look. On this colour the brown leans towards tobacco and lets the lighter fibres of the weave show — the strongest contrast of the three shades, and the one that takes a patina fastest in the hand.
Under the scales the construction does not change: dark titanium liners along the full length of the handle, Torx hardware at the pivots and the scales, and a latch fitted along one handle.
A First Run of 300 pieces
This first series is produced in 300 pieces, each carrying its number engraved on the flat of the blade. The three colours belong to the same First Run. The number is what sets a piece from this series apart from those that follow.
The model is shown for the first time by Fred Perrin at the SICAC, the international art and collector knife show, on 18 and 19 September 2026 in Paris.

Care
VG10 is stainless: wiping it after use is enough, and oil is only useful at the pivots. Micarta cleans with a cloth and warm water; avoid solvents, which attack the surface resin and blur the weave. Check the Torx screws of the scales, pivots and latch from time to time.
