Max Knives TIKNU9+ — Anodised titanium pocket piece, clip notches

Overview

The TIKNU9+ is the coloured variant of the last drawing in the series. The body keeps its 63 × 40 mm and its maximum thickness of 17 mm, along with the lanyard hole and the two side notches that act as clips. The titanium itself goes anodised: the shop lists the reference in several tones, among them blue, violet and brown. The colour does not hide the metal, it tints it through, and the reflections shift with the angle.

Anodising lays down no paint at all

Colouring titanium has nothing to do with painting it. An electric current grows an extremely thin oxide film on the surface, and its thickness alone decides the tone you see: light reflects off both the top and the underside of that film, the two waves recombine, and a single colour comes back out. A few tens of nanometres of difference take you from brown to violet, then to blue. Nothing sits on the metal, the colour is the metal, which is why it cannot flake and why it shifts as you move your eye.

Care

Treat the tone as an optical surface: a soft dry cloth maintains it on its own, and clean water handles whatever is left. Keep the piece away from degreasers, descalers and polishing pastes, which would alter the thickness of the oxide film and therefore the colour. After a rinse, dry around the lanyard hole and inside the notches before putting the piece away.
