Overview

The TIKNU1 opens the TIKNU series with its plainest version: the titanium is left exactly as the machining leaves it, light grey and matt, with no anodising. The piece runs 55 mm long, 37 mm wide and 10 mm thick, which makes it short and broad rather than drawn out. The wide 25 mm hole passes right through the body and takes the index finger, the single point that holds the object. At the far end, a tungsten carbide glass-breaker tip finishes the outline. It is a pocket and collection piece, cut from a metal rarely seen in so heavy a section.

Machined from solid

A piece machined from solid is cut out of a full block: material is taken away until the shape appears, rather than poured into a mould or built up from several parts. The body stays in one piece, with nothing welded or bonded on. Here the 10 mm thickness is the section kept from the original block, and the 25 mm hole is opened in that same material. The natural finish hides none of that work: you read the shape of the titanium directly, with no layer of colour laid over it.

Care

Titanium does not rust: damp pockets and damp hands have no hold on it, and a dry cloth at the end of the day is enough. On a natural finish, fingerprints come off with clean water and mild soap, followed by a thorough dry. Wipe the tungsten carbide tip whenever it has been wet. Keep abrasive pastes and scouring pads away, since they would leave scratches in the matt grey of the bare titanium.
