Max Knives FPGSPLT — folding Shark Griffe, natural titanium ring

Overview

The FPGSPLT opens the set of six folding Griffes with titanium rings drawn by Fred Perrin for Max Knives. Its 440C steel blade measures 45 mm for 3.5 mm of thickness at the spine, with a slanted tip that gives the model its name. The G10 handle, built with contrasting scales, measures 80 mm and carries at its end a titanium ring in natural colour, meaning the light grey of the metal left untreated. Open, the knife reaches 125 mm for 56 g. It comes in a kydex neck sheath mounted on paracord, and belongs to a numbered First Run series.

A ring you set to your own finger

This is the real singularity of these six models: the ring does not have a fixed diameter, it adjusts. On a ring knife that dimension decides everything, because a ring that floats does not do its job and a ring that is too tight is not picked up quickly. Being able to set it once and for all to its owner's finger therefore changes the way the object is held. Titanium was chosen for the part: a light metal, indifferent to corrosion, which accepts being worked into a slim ring without turning brittle. Here it is left in its natural tone, light grey and matt.

Care

Natural titanium does not rust and needs no more than a soft cloth to bring back its matt grey; there is no call to polish it. The 440C blade is dried after any wet use and given a film of neutral oil along the spine. Check the tightness of the ring from time to time, since it is adjustable, and leave the joint open for a few minutes before folding a wet knife. The kydex sheath rinses under clear water.
