Overview

The MKO8DT takes the MKO8 platform and gives it a double-edged blade: 120 mm of handle, 208 mm deployed, 108 g. Its D2 steel blade measures 88 mm by 3 mm thick and stands out through its double edge, meaning it carries an edge on both sides instead of one. The handle is cut from black anodised aircraft aluminium and integrates a glass breaker. The knife rides on a belt clip or inside its cordura belt pouch, supplied with it.

The double edge, and what it involves

A blade carrying an edge on both sides behaves differently. The tip, caught between two symmetrical bevels, enters more decisively; cutting happens in both directions of the movement, with no need to turn the knife over; on the other hand there is no longer a spine to rest a thumb on or to push with the palm, so handling calls for constant attention. It is also worth knowing that most European regulations treat double edged blades separately from the rest of cutlery, with their own rules on possession and transport. Care

Cleaning a double edged blade calls for a method: you never wipe by pinching the cloth around the steel. Lay the fabric flat on a table, rest the blade on it and wipe one face at a time by drawing it towards you, spine facing out. As D2 is sensitive to moisture, that drying follows every contact with water, after which a fine oil goes on with a cloth the same way. The cordura pouch is shaken out and left open to dry, and the glass breaker is kept free of any deposit.
