Max Knives MKH02B — Warthog Torpen folder, anodised titanium, N690

Overview

The Warthog is a folding knife drawn by Jérôme Hovaere, known as Torpen, and produced with Max Knives. This MKH02B version carries a titanium handle anodised in a light brown tone, somewhere between bronze and khaki, paired with a black 77 mm blade in N690 steel. Closed it measures 100 mm; open, 176 mm. It ships with a cordura sheath and belongs to a First Run edition limited and numbered to 300 pieces.

A back lock with an integral spring

This is the technical signature of the Warthog: a back lock with an integral spring, exclusive to Torpen. The lock works at the rear of the handle and its spring is not an added part, it is built into the mechanism itself. Opening and closing are both one-handed and decisive, with no need to change grip halfway through the movement. Few folding knives offer this kind of lock, and that is exactly what sets this model apart.

Technical specifications

The Warthog blade is N690 steel with a plain edge, 77 mm long and 3 mm thick, in a black finish. The handle is light brown anodised titanium and measures 100 mm, which is the closed length of the knife; opened out, the whole thing reaches 176 mm. The lock is a back lock with an integral spring. A cordura sheath is included. The First Run series is limited to 300 numbered pieces.

Care

Titanium does not rust and its anodising holds without special treatment: a soft cloth is enough, with no abrasive product that would dull the light brown tone. The N690 blade asks for a wipe after use and dry storage, kept out of the cordura sheath for as long as the sheath is damp. A drop of fine oil on the pivot keeps the back lock moving evenly. Sharpening is done on a stone, at the original angle.
