Overview

The MK116B plays the lightweight card: 64 g on the scale for 162 mm open, thanks to a skeletonised black polymer handle whose cut-outs remove material where it does no work. The 64 mm satin-finished 12C27 tanto blade contrasts with the dark handle, and the integral carabiner clips the knife to a belt loop, a bag ring or a harness. Every piece leaves the workshop numbered.

The piston in the thumb stud

What sets the MK116B apart is its safety. With the blade folded, an automatic catch holds it closed, so the knife stays shut inside a bag. To free the blade you press the piston built into the thumb stud, then push that same stud to swing the blade out. The movement is deliberate and comes in two stages, done with the thumb alone without releasing the handle. A mechanism of that kind changes how you carry a folder.

Care

A skeletonised handle rinses easily: warm water, a soft brush through the cut-outs, then complete drying before the blade goes back. Wipe the 12C27 after use and keep the pivot area clean so the closed-blade catch always finds its seat. The thumb-stud piston prefers to stay free of dust; a puff of air and a cloth handle that. A touch of light oil on the joint keeps the movement smooth.
