Overview

The MKPNN is a black Nato tactical pen machined from anodised aircraft aluminium. It measures 11.8 cm long and 13.5 mm in diameter and weighs only 28 grams, a figure the chosen metal explains on its own: where brass fills the hand with material, aircraft aluminium offers the same diameter for a fraction of the mass. The cap screws on. Alongside the pen, it carries a touch-pad.

A pen and a touch-pad

Writing and tapping a screen are two actions that follow one another all day long, and normally call for two objects. The touch-pad on the end of the MKPNN removes that back and forth: turn the pen around, sign a delivery note on a tablet, confirm a form, go back to writing. The soft surface of a touch-pad is also what lets you touch a screen without marking it, where a fingernail or a metal point would leave traces on the glass.

Care

The black anodising cleans with a soft cloth, dry or slightly damp, with no solvent or abrasive product that would attack the surface layer. Dust the cap thread now and then: that is where pocket lint collects, and a clean thread screws home without forcing. Wipe the touch-pad to remove the finger grease that reduces its contact with the screen.
