Overview

The MKO42 opens a series of three automatic knives built on the same chassis, separated only by the shape of their blades. This one takes a 93 mm drop point in stainless steel, 3 mm thick. The aluminium handle measures 135 mm closed, with a thickness of 15.20 mm that fills the hand without overdoing it, and the knife reaches 228 mm once open, at 149 g on the scale. The pocket clip is reversible. This is the most general-purpose member of the trio, the one you pick when you would rather not commit to a single job.

Drop point: the shape that refuses to specialise

On a drop point the spine slopes gently down towards the tip, which ends up slightly below the line of the spine and roughly in line with the hand. Two practical consequences follow. First, a generous belly, the long curve that does all the work when you slice by pulling, on rope as much as on food. Second, a tip that stays wide at its base, backed by material and easy to steer when starting a precise cut or piercing packaging. It is the most widespread geometry in pocket knives, precisely because it rules nothing out.

The reversible clip: two ways to carry

The clip on the MKO42 unscrews and remounts on the other side of the handle. That detail settles a question right-handers never ask and left-handers know well: which pocket the knife naturally falls into. Depending on the side chosen, the thumb meets the control as the knife clears the pocket, with no need to reseat it in the palm. Swapping means unscrewing the clip and refitting it into the threads provided on the opposite flank, taking care not to overtighten small diameter screws. Once it sits on the right side, it is the kind of adjustment you forget about because it works.

Care

Stainless steel resists moisture, it does not ignore it: wipe the blade after use and avoid stowing it damp in a closed pocket. The aluminium handle asks for nothing more than a soft cloth and soapy water. Mechanically, an automatic knife has no time for sand or lint in its blade channel: a blast of dry air now and then, followed by a drop of fine oil, keeps the action even. Finally, check the tightness of the clip screws, especially after moving the clip to the other side.
