Max Knives MKO35MINI — Compact OTF automatic, 68 mm D2 drop point

Overview

At 83 g and 112 mm with the blade retracted, the MKO35MINI is the lightest OTF in the MKO35 series. Its D2 drop point blade measures 68 mm and 3 mm thick, taking the knife to 177 mm once deployed. The drop point shape, with a spine falling gently towards a tip that sits in line with the hand, remains the one that asks least of the user: it slices on its belly, pierces cleanly and can be steered with the fingertips for close work. A black anodised aluminium handle, reversible clip and glass breaker complete the package.

One slider, two movements

That is what double action means. On many OTF knives, one control fires the blade out and a different manipulation is needed to bring it home. Here the same slider does both: pushed forward it drives the blade into the deployed position, pulled back it draws it inside the handle again. The thumb never leaves its resting point between the two movements, so you can open, cut and close without setting the knife down or bringing your fingers anywhere near the edge.

A clip that swaps sides

The belt clip on the MKO35MINI is reversible, a detail that covers two separate needs. The first is for left-handed users, who get the knife on the correct side instead of working around a right-handed mounting. The second is carry position: depending on the side chosen, the tool sits in a back or front trouser pocket, on a bag strap or inside a jacket pocket, with the handle facing the way the hand naturally reaches for it. One knife therefore fits several carry habits.

Care

Everyday jobs are more corrosive than they look: lemon juice, salad dressing, road salt or plain sweat attack a tool steel far faster than clean water does. The habit to build is to rinse, wipe and dry the blade after that kind of contact, then leave it in the air for a moment before retracting it. A drop of fine oil spread with a cloth protects the steel through storage periods. The aluminium body cleans up with warm water, and it pays to check that no residue stays in the opening the blade travels through.
