Overview

The P58B carries the longest blade of the series: 97 mm of clip point at 2.31 mm thick, which also makes it the thickest cutting blade of the batch. It sits between two black stainless handles pierced by a row of round holes spaced at regular intervals along their length. Closed, the knife measures 125 mm; open, 214 mm. At 102 g it lands mid-table, between the lively 92 g models and the more planted 115 g ones.

Why the handles are drilled

Skeletonising a balisong handle answers two needs at once. The first is a matter of mass: every hole removes steel, and removing steel toward the far end of a handle changes the way it turns around its pivot. The second is tactile. The rims of the holes create a run of landmarks the finger feels going past without needing to look; you know where you are holding the handle, how far from the latch, and you find the same grip from one throw to the next. It is a detail that shows up in use, once sequences happen with your eyes elsewhere.

Care

The holes pass right through the handle, so they dry quickly, provided you leave the knife open for a few minutes after a wet clean instead of shutting it straight away. A soft cloth is enough for the black finish, with no solvent. The pivots want light, regular lubrication; one drop a month beats a flood once a year, which would only hold dust.
