Overview

The MKO35ST belongs to the OTF family: knives whose blade does not swing out sideways but travels straight out of the front of the handle, along the axis of the knife. The black anodised aluminium body measures 120 mm with the blade retracted and the knife reaches 205 mm once deployed, for 112 g on the scales. The D2 drop point blade is 78 mm long and 3 mm thick, with a lowered tip sitting in line with your grip and a generous belly, a profile that slices, trims and pierces without changing hands.

Automatic, not assisted

The two words often travel together, yet they describe different mechanics. On an assisted opening, your thumb starts the blade through its first few degrees and only then does a spring take over to finish the travel. On an automatic such as the MKO35ST, the blade is already held under tension inside the handle: pressing the control releases all that stored energy at once, and your finger never touches steel. In practice the movement stays identical with thick gloves on, with your other hand busy, or in the dark, because there is no stud or flipper to find by feel.

Care

D2 steel mainly asks to be kept dry. After wet or dirty work, wipe the blade along its full length and let it dry before sending it back into the handle rather than shutting moisture inside. A film of light oil across the flats is enough for storage over several weeks. The mechanism simply wants to stay clean: dust, sawdust and grit end up in the track, and a dry cloth plus a puff of air deals with them. Kept in its nylon sheath rather than loose at the bottom of a bag, the handle keeps its anodising unmarked.
