Overview

The MKBAMBKD is the damascus-on-black version of the MKBAM series. Its drop-point blade is 51 mm long, 25 mm wide and 2 mm thick, mounted on an 77 mm black G10 handle. Open, the knife runs to 132 mm for 33 grams, held by a liner lock. It ships with paracord and a kydex sheath with lanyard. The paracord and the lanyard both give something to grip when pulling it out of a pack.

On this model the damascus pattern lands against an entirely dark background: black G10 throws back no light, so the contrast between the layers of the blade becomes the one thing the eye catches once the knife is open. The drop-point profile plays its part, its spine dropping in a steady curve to the point and leaving the pattern the full height of the blade to spread across. That is the difference from the ceramic-bladed MKBAM models in the same series: here the blade sets the character of the knife.

Care

Damascus wants a dry wipe after use, then a light oiling now and then: that film of oil is what keeps the pattern clean and readable over time. The black G10 handle washes with soapy water, and the kydex sheath should be rinsed and dried before storage. Check the pivot screw and the liner lock spring regularly, since both work at every opening, and put a drop of fine oil on them.
