Overview

The FP2402 is a titanium belt buckle drawn by Fred Perrin for Max Knives. Its outline stretches out: 78 mm long by 50 mm wide, and only 5 mm thick, which has it sit flush under a shirt rather than stand proud of it. On the scale it comes to 36 grams. Nothing is added on, nothing is fitted over: the whole design lives in one plate of metal and in the openings that take the strap. It mounts on the CEINTUREMAX leather belt carried by the brand.

Titanium, and the gap with the FP2401

Titanium is a metal both light and hard, one that grows a stable oxide layer by itself: it does not rust, does not dull, and takes constant contact with skin and cloth, which makes it a logical material for a piece worn at the waist every day. The two buckles in the series share that material but not their proportions. The FP2401 is short and thick: 60 mm long, 58 mm wide, 7 mm at its deepest, 38 grams. The FP2402 goes the other way, at 78 mm long, 50 mm wide, 5 mm thick and 36 grams. Longer and slimmer, then, for a drawn-out silhouette.

Care

A titanium buckle asks for close to nothing. Wipe it with a dry or barely damp cloth to lift dust and fingerprints, then dry it off. If the strap has left a deposit in the openings, a soft brush or a cotton bud clears it without scratching the metal. Titanium minds neither rain nor perspiration, but abrasive products do bite into the surface finish: stay with lukewarm water and a little mild soap.
