Overview

The PBF-4 takes the even square of the skeletonised handle, and even means tanto across the eight PBF. The same aligned round holes run along the arms of black anodized aluminium, of integral construction, but the blade follows a different logic: 107 mm of D2 tool steel whose edge runs straight before breaking at a clean angle into a short, reinforced point. Two exposed pivot screws, light satin blade finish, D2 marking at the ricasso. 142 mm closed, 245 mm open.

Two references, one difference

The PBF-3 and the PBF-4 share everything: the skeletonised handle, the 107 mm blade, the tool steel, the integral construction — everything except the tip. The PBF-3 finishes as a clip point, its spine dropping in a concave curve towards a fine, low point; the PBF-4 finishes as a tanto, a marked angle and a thick, two-faceted tip. Choosing between them here means choosing a blade geometry and nothing else.

Technical specifications

107 mm tanto blade in D2 tool steel, plain edge, 3 mm thick, light satin finish, D2 marking at the ricasso. Black anodized aluminium handle of integral construction, skeletonised with aligned round holes, 12.50 mm thick, two exposed pivot screws. 142 mm with the arms closed, 245 mm fully open.

Care

The handle piercings are dusted with a soft brush or compressed air, pivots included. On the blade, caring for a tool steel comes down to two gestures: dry after handling, then put back a film of light oil. The tanto calls for sharpening in two parts, the straight edge and the tip facet being worked separately. Checking the tightness of the two pivot screws regularly keeps the rotation clean.
