Max Knives MKO17 — OTF Automatic Knife, Partially Serrated Double Edge

Overview

Same chassis as the MKO16 — 172 mm deployed, a 105 mm aluminium and carbon-fibre handle, a glass breaker at the butt, a belt clip, a double-action automatic OTF mechanism — but a different blade: 66 mm, double-edged, with serrations along part of the edge. This is the working version of the family.

Technical details

Double-edged 3Cr13 stainless blade, combination plain and serrated edge, 66 mm long and 2.5 mm thick. 105 mm handle in aluminium and carbon fibre, finished with a glass breaker. Double-action automatic OTF mechanism, push-button. Belt clip and lanyard hole. Overall length 172 mm. Nylon sheath included.

Uses

The serrated section bites into what escapes a plain edge: synthetic webbing, braided cordage, seat belts, flexible hose. Combined with the glass breaker at the butt, it makes the MKO17 an improvised extraction tool worth keeping in a vehicle. The plain section stays available for clean cuts.

Care

Serrations are not sharpened like a plain edge: use a round file or a tapered sharpener, one scallop at a time, and never a flat stone, which would flatten the teeth. The plain section sharpens normally. Otherwise the same regime as the MKO16: blow out the channel, wipe the blade, dry the sheath.

What sets the MKO17 apart

It is the only OTF in the range with serrations. If you are choosing between the two: plain for clean cutting and easy sharpening, partially serrated for soft materials and vehicle use.
