Overview

An even number on the grid, therefore a tanto: the PBF-6 pairs the dished-disc handle with a 107 mm blade in D2 tool steel. The circular hollows milled into the black anodized aluminium run along both arms, which swing on their two axes to enclose or release the blade. Integral construction, two exposed pivot screws, light satin blade finish and D2 marking at the ricasso. 142 mm closed, 245 mm open, the same dimensions as its twin the PBF-5.

The tanto: a short tip, two facets

On the PBF-6, the edge stays straight over most of the blade, then breaks at a clean angle. From that angle a second, shorter facet rises towards a thick, reinforced point. This is precisely what separates the tanto from the clip point of the odd numbers, whose spine instead drops away in a concave curve to a fine, low tip. The practical consequence at the bench: a tanto is touched up in two passes, each facet having its own orientation on the stone.

Care

Clean the dished discs with a dry cloth, pressing a fingertip into each hollow. The D2 tool steel blade is dried and then lightly oiled after handling. The two pivots call for a drop of light oil and a check on the tightness of their screws. When sharpening, work the long straight edge first, then the tip facet, without trying to join the two in a single movement.
