Overview

The P280T is a neck knife: a short fixed blade, supplied with its ABS sheath, made to be carried hanging from a cord on the chest. Nothing to unfold, nothing to unlock — you pull, you cut, you put it back. The 440C stainless blade measures 70 mm and is drawn as a drop point, and the knife runs to 145 mm overall. The handle is nylon. This is the format for people whose hands are already busy: on a boat, on a rock face, at the water's edge or under canvas.

Neck carry, and what it changes

A neck knife travels in its sheath, the sheath hanging from a cord around the neck, over or under clothing. The whole interest lies in the position: the tool is always in the same place, in the middle of the chest, within reach of either hand, and it stays reachable while seated, harnessed, in a canoe or inside a sleeping bag, where a trouser pocket becomes impossible to get at. The rigid ABS sheath does the work: it holds the blade, protects clothing and lets the knife come free with one downward pull. The nylon handle suits this way of carrying, a synthetic material that damp leaves indifferent.

Technical specifications

The blade is 440C stainless steel and measures 70 mm. It is drawn as a drop point, a profile whose spine slopes gently down towards the tip, which places that tip in line with the cut. The edge is partly serrated: a toothed section and a plain section share the cutting edge, the teeth biting into fibrous material such as rope or webbing while the plain part takes care of clean cuts. Overall length is 145 mm and the handle is nylon. An ABS sheath is supplied.

Care

After a trip at sea, on a river or in the rain, rinse the blade in fresh water and wipe it dry before it goes back into the sheath: for a knife carried against the body, that is the habit that matters most. The ABS sheath washes in soapy water and should be dried inside as well, so that no moisture is shut in against the steel. The nylon handle asks for nothing more than a wipe with a sponge. Store it with a dry blade in a dry sheath, and check now and then that the hollows between the teeth are clear of rope fibres.
