Max Knives P32S — 440C butterfly knife, champagne gold handles

Overview

Colour is what sets this P32S apart. Its two stainless steel half-handles carry a warm metallic finish, a champagne gold that stands clearly apart from the brighter satin blade, a 100 mm drop point. Closed, the knife measures 133 mm and the blade slides between the handles; open, the two halves fold against each other into a grip, for a total length of 226 mm. Large ovals are cut along the handles.

About 440C steel

440C is a stainless steel with a high carbon content, which places it a step above the 3Cr13 found on other balisongs in the range. That carbon load lets it reach a higher hardness through heat treatment, and a harder steel holds its edge longer between two sessions of upkeep. Chromium, meanwhile, is present in sufficient quantity to look after resistance to damp. On a 100 mm blade like the one on the P32S, it is the choice of longevity: the steel wears more slowly, and the satin surface keeps its even look through handling.

Technical specifications

The P32S takes a 100 mm drop-point blade in 440C steel with a bright satin finish. Its length goes from 133 mm closed to 226 mm open. Both half-handles are stainless steel, presented in a champagne gold metallic finish, and cut with large ovals along their full length. Each handle turns on its own pivot, located at the heel of the blade.

Care

The champagne finish on the handles deserves a microfibre cloth rather than a coarse textile: it cleans up in a few passes, with no special product. Remember to wipe around the ovals too, where moisture likes to linger. On the satin blade, always work along the direction of the satin lines so you do not cross them. A trace of care oil on the steel and a drop on each pivot round off the routine, and the knife goes away closed, somewhere dry and airy.
